To cyanne2ak...what? I was born and raised, and I live in Trinidad and to my knowledge we have never had a hurricane. We are out of the hurricane belt, too far south.
To answer the question, its a good place to visit and live. Try to visit Trinidad during Carnival time, though. Trinidad's main tourist attraction is its culture. Carnival, steelpan, calypso, cuisine (double, roti, pelau, callaloo). We have great eco-tourism too. The Nariva and Caroni swamp, waterfalls. Get a hiking guide and see the island. Tobago is more what you think about when you think about the Caribbean. Beaches, Coral Reef, Scuba Diving. IT'S GREAT!!

It's a better place to visit. The crime situation in Trinidad is increasing, so I wouldn't choose to live there as a first choice unless you have a serious business that would benefit you and the country. Trinidad isn't known as a tourist destination outside of Carnival (which is a must if you go). Again, it a place of business, so if that is your intention, then perhaps Trinidad is for you. There is a lot to see there, though the best beaches for the republic are in Tobago. Read the newspapers and see if the daily crime reports would bother you or not (in the US, we have crime everywhere...Trinidad isn't any different, but their justice system definitely needs help). Also keep in mind that hospitals aren't the same & don't expect to call for an ambulance and get a speedy response. There are certain aspects of the country to consider, but there are always good and bad things about any place.

i have been there and that i love it. even if the crime cost is slightly scary even if...a large type of my kin stay there and easily one of them change into abducted early very last year. Fortunatly they basically cleared out his economic corporation account and released him after 4 days, with a danger that he extra useful no longer tell the police otherwise they'll kill him... yet his bro instructed the police and those men are on trial, i do not understand if the trial is over yet, I havent requested, yet besides..earlier that surpassed off I continuously concept my mom change into exaggerating about the Trini crime cost yet now i understand its kinda genuine. yet all issues aside, i imagine Trinidad is a delightful position. i particularly savour myself at the same time as i'm there. And a minimum of the police do thier jobs nicely...the food is massive too. yet you'll get that similar food on the different islands with out the crime yet say what... N.B- i'm no longer retaining you may want to not visit Trinidad i'm basically letting you already know the vibe, yet trini is an extremely nice position. I fairly reccomend it as an section for a holiday, yet be careful. that is all i'm retaining.

i dont know WHERE you got your information!
trinidad and tobago is rarely hit by hurricanes!
though, as of late the crime situation has been on the rise :-( it makes me sad to think trinidadian's safety is constantly in jeopardy...
however, despite all things, i would never want to live anywhere else. (i'm trinidadian)

Both. And to correct the first answer - it is below the hurricane line, so it's never been hit by a hurricane. People are fun loving. Great food, great people, wonderful places to go to. Enjoy!

I went there for 6 weeks (Tobago) the people are friendly and warm, but unless you have a career it would be like living anywhere else................ you need money.
